Get ready to be blown away by the Logitech MX Revolution Cordless Laser Mouse. With its innovative scrolling technology, batteries you can recharge, and improvements that make it easier to do regular tasks, the Logitech MX Revolution is a huge leap in the right direction. People can argue over whether they think this mouse is revolutionary or not, but it is definitely an important step in the evolution of computer mice.
Product Description:
Ergonomics and Design
The first thing that you will notice about the Logitech MX Revolution Cordless Laser Mouse is its unique shape, which resembles a cresting wave. The good news is that the design does a lot more than just look good. The mouse feels great in little and big hands, and the curved channel which feels good against your thumb, makes it easy to use the document “Quick Flip” dial on the side of the mouse. Right above the Quick Flip control you will find a pair of thin, customizable buttons that by default operate as forward and back controls for Web pages.
The top of the mouse holds Logitech’s premier Precision Scroll Wheel, which dynamically controls how fast you do your scrolling. Side scrolling and a scroll wheel-based button press are also supported. Right behind the scroll wheel is the quick search button, which takes you to the search engine of your choice.
The “Quick-Flip” thumb wheel makes it really easy to quickly switch between active windows. All together, it is a simple design that offers a whole lot of functionality. For left handed people it will be awkward to use the quick flip dial that is located in the channel on the left side of the mouse. Even though Logitech has designed a small ridge on the right side of the mouse that left handed people might find supportive, this mouse has obviously been built for right handed people.

The MicroGear Scroll Wheel:
This is a quote from Logitech about the MicroGear Scroll Wheel “represents the single largest engineering effort ever undertaken by our engineering team,” and their hard work really shows; the scroll wheel is not only nicely designed with a smooth, progressive feel, but it is also very smart. Do you need to scroll through large Web pages and documents? Just place the scroll wheel in “freewheel” mode and give the wheel a quick, frictionless spin.
The action feels like a well-oiled roller-ball and offers lightning fast speed. Do you need slow scrolling for browsing photo albums or data spreadsheets? Then you can switch to ratchet mode for precise movement. The Logitech MX Revolution Cordless Laser Mouse comes with SetPoint software that can automatically switch modes — a feature called SmartShift or you can switch modes manually with a light press on the scroll wheel that shifts “gears”.
Quick Flip and Fingertip Search:
A couple of other functions make the MX Revolution a perfect tool for being productive and power users. The included software installs an application switcher that is linked to the mouse’s thumb wheel, this is called “Quick-Flipping”. Clicking the thumb wheel brings up a window that list all of the currently active application windows. Rotating the wheel and then pressing it again when you have reached your selection will bring up the window of your choice. The fingertip search, which which relies on a small button right behind the scroll wheel, lets you input any copied text into the search engine of your choice.
Connection and Power:
You will find it super easy to connect the MX Revolution. The included wireless USB dongle is easily recognized by Windows and Mac machines, and after you switch on the power switch on the base of the mouse, you are ready to go. Some Wireless mice can be pain when you have to replace the batteries. The Revolution MX solves this problem by integrating a rechargeable battery. The included charging stand is simple and stylish, although it does require wall power (no USB charging). You will have to use the stand a lot, because the battery life in the mouse will last you about a day. The Logitech MX Revolution Cordless Laser Mouse does not have a sleep mode when it is not active, an omission from a device that is otherwise just about perfect.
The Pros:
- Superior ergonomics
- MicroGear scroll wheel and fast application switching
- Really nice charging stand
- This mouse has excellent precision, no drifting or lag time
- You can move the scroll wheel very quickly or very slowly
- You can use the mouse for 10 to 12 hours daily for three or or four days and the charge level doesn’t drop below 60%

The Cons:
- Mac support is not as good as Windows
- Don’t bother with this mouse if you are left handed
- The microswitch under the left mouse button is weak
- Proprietary wireless – no BlueTooth here
In Summary:
If you spend a lot of time online and you use your mouse a lot, then this is the mouse you want to get. The Logitech MX Revolution Cordless Laser Mouse will give you everything that you are looking for in a mouse and then some. Also if you like the idea of having a lot of extras, this mouse will give you many.

Review by Bob Feeser (The Most Helpful Favorable Review)
Installation is a breeze. Plug in the charger. Turn on the mini switch on the back of the mouse. Pop the USB receiver into a USB port. (It is so tiny; it is the size of 2 USB plugs altogether.) then use the auto install on the CD. Then shut down, remove your old mouse, and reboot. Done. By the way, the lithium battery had a sufficient charge right out of the box. You’re up and running in a couple of minutes.

Review by Thistle (The Most Helpful Critical Review)
I have used several different Logitech miceover the years, and specifically the MX Revolution Cordless Laser mouse for the past 10 months. Actually I’ve had two separate MX Revolution mice during the past 10 months since the first one lasted a few months before behaving erratically. It took another few months, a lot of aggrevation and many phone calls and emails to Logitech Customer (non) Support before I could get a replacement.
